Born in 1965 near Bristol in the United Kingdom, J.K. Rowling got the idea for Harry Potter while on a train in the early 1990s. The exuberantly creative series has spawned many spin-off books, films, games, and the like. J.K. Rowling has also published some adult novels, and writes crime novels under the name Robert Galbraith. She has received several awards for her writing, including the Lifetime Achievement Award of the British Book Awards in 2008. She currently lives in Edinburgh with her family.
